\"abchurch\"<\/span>The History of the First Baptist Church of Shinnston <\/em><\/span>On November 25, 1885, a small group of faithful Baptists met in\u00a0the Methodist Protestant\u00a0Church of Shinnston on Charles Street and organized a Baptist Church for Shinnston.\u00a0 They held their meeting there until 1891.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In 1891, the membership of forty-five, and under the leadership of Rev. George Kinsey, erected their own church building on a lot on upper Rebecca Street.\u00a0 The new building site was donated by Ferd C. Richardson,Mrs. Albert Sapp, and Miss Juliett Sapp.\u00a0 A new white frame structure was erected and served the church until 1914.<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In 1914, the present church structure was constructed with the laying of the\u00a0formal cornerstone\u00a0on June 30, 1915.\u00a0 During the pastorate of Rev. Louis McCord, the new Education Wing and Fellowship\u00a0Hall was added on June 21, 1959.\u00a0 Rev. Ronald G. James was the pastor when the church built “The Lighthouse Activity Center” on the\u00a0property directly across from the church in 1996.\u00a0 <\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The current pastor of the church, its twenty-sixth, is Mr. Kevin G.Nuzum.\u00a0 The First Baptist Church of Shinnston is a member of the American Baptist Churches USA, WV American Baptist Convention, and the Judson Association of WV Amercian Baptist Churches.\u00a0\u00a0 It is also a member of the Shinnston Area Council of Churches.<\/span><\/h3>\n
